Eagle Gate

The Eagle Gate Monument stands at the intersection of State Street and South Temple near Temple Square. The original gate was built in 1859 near the entrance to Brigham Young’s property and quickly became a recognizable symbol of the growing pioneer settlement.

Today’s monument features a large bronze eagle perched above a beehive, spanning the street below. The beehive has long been a symbol of industry and cooperation in Utah, while the eagle represents strength and vision. Over the years, the monument has been rebuilt and expanded as the city grew, while preserving its connection to the area’s pioneer past.

Standing near Temple Square, Eagle Gate reflects the enduring influence of the early settlers who helped shape the city and its surrounding community.
