Restoration of the Melchizedek Priesthood
The Restoration of the Melchizedek Priesthood statue depicts a sacred event that took place in 1829. Peter, James, and John, three of Jesus Christ’s original Apostles, appeared as heavenly messengers to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery. They conferred upon them the Melchizedek Priesthood, God’s authority and power to act in His name.
This priesthood is the same authority Jesus Christ gave to His Apostles anciently. For Latter-day Saints, the restoration of priesthood authority is central to the mission of the Church. Through it, individuals receive ordinances and blessings that strengthen lives and families.
The statue stands as a visual reminder that Jesus Christ continues to guide His Church and extend His power to bless and save God’s children.
