Joseph Smith Receives the Plates
The Joseph Smith Receives the Plates statue depicts a series of sacred events that occurred between 1823 and 1827. Joseph Smith was visited by Moroni, a heavenly messenger, who told him of a record buried in a nearby hill. This record contained the writings of prophets who lived in the ancient Americas. These ancient prophets taught of God’s plan and testified of Jesus Christ.
Moroni later entrusted Joseph with the plates and gave him a divine responsibility: to translate the record by the gift and power of God. That translation became the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
Together with the Bible, the Book of Mormon bears witness of the Savior’s life, ministry, and love for all people. For many visitors, this statue offers a moment to reflect on how God continues to speak, guide His children, and bring hope through Jesus Christ.
