Christ in Gethsemane
The Christ in Gethsemane statue on Temple Square commemorates one of the most sacred moments in human history. On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus Christ entered the Garden of Gethsemane and prayed in deep anguish, submitting His will to that of His Father in Heaven.
In this holy setting, Jesus Christ took upon Himself the sins, pains, and sorrows of all humankind. His suffering was both physical and spiritual, willingly endured as part of God’s plan of salvation. Through this act, his suffering on the cross, and resurrection, He made forgiveness, healing, and eternal life possible for all.
