The Deuel Cabin is one of only two surviving homes built by Latter-day Saint pioneers during their first year in the Salt Lake Valley. Constructed in 1847 by Osmyn and Mary Deuel and Osmyn’s brother Amos, the small log home provides a rare look into the daily life of early settlers.

Built from local timber and furnished to reflect the period, the cabin shows the simplicity and resourcefulness of pioneer living. Osmyn Deuel worked as a blacksmith and farmer, and the family quickly began planting crops and establishing a home in the unfamiliar valley. Though modest in size, the cabin sheltered both family life and the hopes of people working to build a new community centered on faith in Jesus Christ.

Today, the restored cabin stands between the Church History Museum and the FamilySearch Library. The cabin is not open to go inside, but visitors can view the interior through a clear doorway.
