The Salt Lake Temple Open House Tour
Average Time Spent: 40-60 Min
Walk through the historic Salt Lake Temple, a holy house of the Lord open to the public for the first time since 1893.
What to Expect
The Salt Lake Temple Open House is the central experience of the Salt Lake Temple Celebration and a rare opportunity to enter one of the world’s most recognized houses of worship. Once the temple is rededicated, it will again be reserved for sacred worship and will not be open for public tours. The Salt Lake Temple has not welcomed the public inside since 1893.
As you move through the temple, you’ll experience peaceful and beautifully crafted spaces designed for worship, reflection, and sacred promises centered on following Jesus Christ. Many visitors are surprised to discover that the temple is not one large gathering hall or chapel, but a series of carefully designed rooms, each with a distinct purpose. Along the tour route, you’ll see ordinance rooms, sealing rooms, baptistries, and historic pioneer-era spaces unique to the Salt Lake Temple.
While its intricate architecture and craftsmanship show honor to God, the temple’s purpose is to help bring people closer to Heavenly Father, the Savior, and their families. Throughout the experience, guests are invited to reflect on the peace, hope, and eternal perspective that temple worship brings to millions of people around the world.
The tour begins in the Conference Center auditorium. Guests will follow one of two tour routes through the temple, including an elevator-accessible route for those needing mobility assistance. Audio narration in many languages is available through the Temple Square app using personal mobile devices and earphones. Devices and headsets are also available to borrow for those who need them.
